Heartworn Highways (1981)
Whiskey, acoustic guitars, and guns. And more whiskey. What else can really describe the outlaw music scene from the mid-70’s featuring some of the greatest country songwriters in history like Townes Van Zandt, David Allen Coe (who drives his own tour bus), and the Charlie Daniels Band. The un-narrated grittiness, and long still shots really sucks the viewer into each scene from a fly-on-the-wall perspective. One of the most intimate music docs ever. I score it a solid 4 out of 5 cowboy hats.
